HANOI, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will install natural disaster warning towers in 28 coastal cities and provinces in 2012, which will provide early warning news to fishing activities on the sea, announced the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ( MNRE) on Tuesday.
The towers, located on height depending on the local terrain, will be equipped with signal lamps, automatic hydro-meteorology observance equipment and warning siren and loudspeakers. Each tower will have signal equipment to forecast tropical depression, storms and tsunami.
The towers will be connected with local natural disaster forecast centers so as together to respond timely to the earthquakes, tsunami, storms or tropical depressions on the sea. Warning news will be provided to on-shore fishing boats to help them find safe shelters and reduce damages caused by natural calamities.
The project consists of small categories, including designing the towers, construction and operation of the towers. During the initial stage, the towers will be put under control of the local border guards and the storm and flood control and rescue departments, said the report.
