HANOI, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The European Union Delegation to Vietnam announced Friday its approval for the disbursement of 29 million euros (42 million U.S. dollars) as non-refundable aids to support Vietnam's economic renewal and poverty alleviation.
The disbursement is a clear signal of EU's continuous support of the Vietnamese government's strategy to renovate the economy and alleviate poverty, particularly in the context that the country is facing huge macro-economic challenges, which would mostly impact the poor people, said Minister counselor of the EU Delegation to Vietnam Emmanuel Mersch at the conference.
Out of the 29 million euros, 17 million euros (about 24.7 million U.S. dollars) will be spent on EU's poverty alleviation program in Vietnam.
The rest 12 million euros (17.4 million U.S. dollars) will be spent on the program to improve the living conditions of the Vietnamese ethnic people. EU and its partners granted financial support to Project 325 (Phase 2) in Vietnam, aimed at reducing poverty among the ethnic people in remote and mountainous areas.
